Unknown beverage containers make up 14% of what we find, which is not an insignificant amount. The majority of these are plastic bottles (75%), followed by glass at 20% and cans at 5%.
The problem with the mystery glass and plastic bottles is that they cause litter in two ways: first, the bottle itself, and second, the label that is now loose. I also feel that some companies manage to fly under the radar and aren’t noticed as highly littered brands (unlike the easy-to-spot Coca-Cola or Lucozade), despite their prevalence. If I can’t have a litter-free world, I would at least like to see one where companies are socially responsible: an anti-litter message inherent in all advertisements and perhaps a new, permanent way of labelling glass and plastic bottles.
