Quarterly Report: Sodas

As mentioned yesterday, soda or soda-like drinks form a full 25% of the litter that’s being found around Chippenham.  A total of 43 different types have been found so far – keep scrolling to read about the most popular:

Most of these drinks are found in small numbers, being represented just once or twice in the total count.  However, there is one heavy hitter in this category: the six varieties of Coca-Cola represent 45% of all the sodas found, and a whopping 11% of all recycables.  That means that approximately 1 in 10 of every recyclable we find is a Coke product.

Other big names include Pepsi (13% of all soda), Dr Pepper (10%), Fanta (7%), and Tango (5%), but it is clear Coca-Cola dominates this market.  Coke is found throughout the world (a fact that the ColaLife charity is trying to exploit) and has one of the most iconic logos on the planet.  It is obvious that Coke knows how to market its product to reach a global audience – imagine if just a small percentage of its advertising budget were spent to combat littering and encourage recycling.
