Another sunny Sunday and the litter is still hanging in there. At present there does not seem to be any major changes to the rubbish; instead, it appears to have plateaued at its current condition. The only exception is the yellow balloon. As discussed last week, the material thinned due to inflation and it is now wearing through in the wind. The white “biodegradable” balloon continues to not biodegrade.
The problems caused by balloons are numerous, from power outages to wildlife deaths. I am very pleased to see that attention is being focused on this in a forthcoming documentary: Rubber Jellyfish. Check out the website, watch the trailer, and consider supporting the filmmaker’s efforts to educate people about the dangers of balloon releases.
