#OneADayInMay: 19 May

I was entertaining a friend from London today and we paid a visit to two of north Wiltshire’s top attractions: Lacock and Castle Combe. The Union Jack and bunting were flying in honour of the Royal Wedding, but the story on the ground was very different. There was the usual selection of litter from food eaten on the go and smoking paraphernalia, and added to this was what I suspect is accidental litter–leaflets given out at Lacock Abbey.

On the theme of the Royal Wedding, one of the charities selected by the newlyweds is Surfers Against Sewage, a campaign that has been hard at work for many years in the battle against plastic pollution. While I wish the happy couple well in their new life together, I also hope they use their position to address the UK’s rubbish problem–that’s a royal proclamation I think we can all get behind.
