Over the past few years I’ve spent a lot of time documenting a side of Chippenham that the Tourist Information Office would prefer to pretend didn’t exist: the overflowing bins, the “grot spots”, and of course the seemingly endless stream of litter.
However, I have a MissElaineous side project of designing postcards.* I started with the places I used to live–Bath and Bristol–areas that I am sure have their own problem with litter but which look quite good from a distance. Yet I recently turned my attention to Chippenham, trying to find eye-catching sights to photograph that don’t involve cans, bottles, or discarded wrappers. And I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were out there … when you stop and take a moment to look up.
